Obama Wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

One of the most surprising winners of any Nobel Prize was won by current US president, Barack Obama. The Nobel Committee stated that the reason he won the prize because of how strong and determined he was to encourage international diplomacy and co-operation between the people of the world.

There were a couple of favorites like the current Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai or the Chinese dissident Hu Jia. However, it was odd to see Barack Obama to win the Nobel Prize because he has been the president for just less than a year and with not much other experience. The Nobel Committee concluded that he gave people around the world so much hope and aspirations and worked hard to make the world nuclear bomb free.

Ever since he has been in office, Barack Obama has engaged in international agenda's like promoting peace in the Middle East and working hard to eradicate Iran's nuclear program. This is in contrast to the previous president who was unpopular among most of the world leaders. Even the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy has praised the US president and stated that America has once again gained the hearts and minds of the people of the world.

President Barack Obama wasn't the only US president that has won a Nobel Prize. Woodrow Wilson won it in 1919 and Theodore Roosevelt also won in 1906. The Nobel Prize was original conceived and invented by the powerful and rich Swede, Alfred Nobel. The first award was given out in 1901.
